Code & Decay
A series of oil paintings examining objects shaped by financial, technological, and cultural systems in states of controlled deterioration. Rendered through the language of still life, these works stabilize coded and dematerialized forms into singular, physical records. Structure and erosion coexist without narrative emphasis, allowing each painting to function as a resolved object, quiet, finite, and resistant to reproduction. Code & Decay is the turn. After a long period in which the work moved toward spectacle, loud, figurative, and explicit, these paintings begin the return to condition. The subject is no longer the system as image but the system in a state: held, decaying, settling into stillness. Vanitas is the form that fits, because it has always been about what survives as time passes through an object. Here the noise quiets into single objects examined slowly, and the practice begins subtracting its way back toward the held, resolved landscapes that follow.
